Undisciplined, flakey me

August 12, 2008 at 11:38 pm (Uncategorized)

So the expected has happened.  I haven’t posted in my blog for almost a year.  Sigh.  I always start so many projects, but never finish them.  Let’s have a rundown of these projects currently underway:

1.  scrapbook for my daughter’s 1st years (she’s now 4 yrs old) — I can’t even remember the nickname I had decided to give her for this blog to disguise who she really is — although the only people who read this blog know her real name, address, height, weight, dress size, etc….

2.  a sweater I’m knitting for said daughter which should have been a present for last Christmas

3.  this blog which was supposed to get me writing regularly because one of my childhood dreams was to write…

4.  get a medical degree — I did start undergrad pre-med but changed to econ during my first year.  Ever since then, I decided that if I ever won the lottery I’d go back to school, get my medical degree and volunteer with Doctors without Borders.  Guess what the odds of that happening are???

5.  losing 15 lbs and getting back to my wedding weight…  this project may never come to an end

Sigh.

Oh boy am I in trouble…

August 15, 2007 at 7:50 pm (Uncategorized)

I had a very vivid dream last night.

I dreamt that I gave birth to my third child.  My dream was so factual, it was scary.  I dreamt that I got pregnant in spite of an IUD (which I do have).  I dreamt that I only gained up to 135 lbs., which is what I recently weighed in at (gaining from 126 at my lowest since giving birth to the wee man — my second).  I also dreamt that I didn’t figure it out until I could see the outline of the baby against my belly.  I never had any pre-natal visits, because I ended up going into labor the day I found out.  We were so scared because we didn’t know how long I’d been pregnant.  And I was sure it was another boy.  The labor went quickly.  I actually caught my own child.  And she turned out to be a girl.  We named her Casseopia, which is a greek name.  Which is weird because we have to give all our kids greek names, since my in-laws are old school greeks.   And she turned out to be full term, thank goodness.

Weird.  I’m not sure whether to hope that dreams come true or not.

The end of an era…

July 31, 2007 at 5:48 am (Uncategorized)

Today, Bill Walsh, former coach of the San Francisco 49rs died of leukemia.  I still remember in 1981, when the 49rs began their season 1-2.  We had no idea what was in store for us.  That year, the 49rs made it to the Superbowl beating the 500 to 1 odds that Vegas had laid down on the team prior to the start of the season.

The most memorable games of that season for me were the Dallas games.  Prior to this season, the Cowboys had regularly made mincemeat of our team.  But during the regular season, we KILLED them 45-14.  This was the first inkling that we got that this 49r team was something special.  It was so appropriate that we met the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC championship game.  It was a battle from the very beginning.  Dallas scored first and led by halftime.  Both teams had clearly brought their best games.

Everyone knows what happened next, but I remember that drive like it was yesterday.  The drive stalled at midfield.  Only a 5-yard offsides call against the Cowboys saved it.  Then we had a first down inside the 20.  The first 2 plays were runs.  A sweep to the left carried by Earl Cooper.  Then a run through the middle by Lenvil Elliot.  Then it was 3rd and 3 from the 6 yard line.  I swear that Joe Montana was going to get sacked.  Ed “Too Tall” Jones was right in his face.  But somehow Joe got that pass off and somehow Dwight caught it.  The rest, as they say, is history.

And Bill Walsh was the mastermind behind it all.  He will always be in our hearts as the wizard who brought glory to the bay.

I knew this was too good to last…

July 13, 2007 at 4:16 am (Uncategorized)

So when I was on Maternity leave after Princess was born, I negotiated with my employer that if I came back, I’d get to work 1 day a week at home. So for the last 3 years, I’ve been working at least 1 day a week from home. It’s been AWESOME. I schedule special classes for the kids on that day. I also meet with various playgroups on that day. And I can get some chores (laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping) done on that day.

But I’ve been informed that I’m up for a pretty substantial promotion. This promotion is pretty high-profile and I’d be managing people who also have families that don’t have regular days that they work from home. So in order for me to get this promotion, I’ll have to give up my day at home. *sigh* I really want this promotion, so I told my employer that after Princess’s ballet class is over, I’d stop working from home. I’m so sad, but excited about this big promotion.

My blogging dilemna

July 11, 2007 at 6:40 pm (Uncategorized)

So I think that most if not all of my readers belong to this online community that I belong to. So lately I’ve been trying to decide if I have something to say, where should I post it? At the online community or here on my blog? Such a dilemna.

I did send my blog link to my brother just in case he wanted to read, since he lives in London and has limited access to his niece and nephew. But I haven’t heard from him and he hasn’t commented. Can you see who has viewed your blog? Maybe that would help me.

Anyway, just a rambling note of what’s going on in my head, because I haven’t posted on my blog for a little while. How are you all?

Bad Mommy!

June 22, 2007 at 8:33 pm (the Princess & the Wee Man)

I was so excited. I signed Princess up for a 2-3 yr old ballet class, because she LOVES dancing and music. And she’s obsessed with ballerinas.

So I could’ve sworn that Princess’s ballet class started today. I checked the website 3x this week. I mapquested the way to the class. And I waited until today to tell her about the class because I KNEW how excited she’d be about it and if she had to wait for it, she’d probably lose it.

So we put on her ballet dress this morning and ballet shoes. Then we drove all the way to class, only to find out it starts next week!!! OMG! Now Princess is crying uncontrollably. I had to drop her off at daycare sobbing. I felt so bad. And she looked SO cute in her ballet dress and shoes.

BAD MOMMY!

Maybe I should label this bad mommy 1 — I’m sure this is the first of many bad mommy posts… sigh..

The wonderful world of puke and other such nonsense

June 19, 2007 at 8:39 pm (Uncategorized)

So the past couple weeks have been JUST swell. Full of vomit, diarrhea, trips to the ER. And it wasn’t the kids at all! The Greek and I have been the sick ones. Go figure.

So it started the week before last. The Greek was sick and complaining like a baby — he made everything he did seem like it was likely to be his last deed on earth. And I was complaining non-stop about him. (Not to his face of course!) He was having really sharp stomach pains and diarrhea that wouldn’t stop. This went on from Wed night to Saturday. Well by Sat evening, he still wasn’t better, so we decided to go down to the ER. My parents took the kids and away we went. Hours later, after a cat scan, they discovered that his colon was completely inflamed and diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease. So boy did I feel guilty about complaining so much about him… but as I told him, he’s such a baby no matter what is wrong, it’s hard to know when it’s really serious. 🙂 He has to have a colonoscopy to make sure of the diagnosis and determine treatment. So this is scheduled for this Thurs.

Then yesterday, I woke up to an incredible urge to go to the potty. Of course this was the day that the Greek had a 6am flight to Seattle for business. It was just a day trip, but his flight back wouldn’t land until 7:30pm.

After several trips to the bathroom, I braced myself to get the kids ready to go to daycare. There was NO way I’d be able to handle the kids with the runs. So I got them ready quickly and drove them to daycare. Just in the nick of time. By the time I got back home, I had graduated to vomiting and throughout the rest of the day, I was completely incapacitated. Walking 5 ft made me nauseous. It was awful. The Greek had to call daycare to see if they could keep the kids until he got back from Seattle, because I just couldn’t drive. Luckily for us, our daycare is a family-run business out of their house, so that wasn’t a big deal.

Thank goodness, it seems like it was a 24 hr deal. Today I feel 1,000 times better. And I’m eating!! But I had to miss Princess’ first day of preschool, which was today. WAH! I didn’t want to drop her off and subject the whole preschool to my germs. I’ll probably skip the pick up tonight, but I’ll drop her off tomorrow. I can’t WAIT!

Why does this always happen to us?

June 7, 2007 at 9:12 pm (Uncategorized)

So this weekend was supposed to be quiet and relaxing. Then all hell broke loose.

First thing that happened

The Greek (my husband) gets a phone call from one of his close college buddies (he has about 40 of them). His friend works for an airline and is getting free tickets to fly to SF this weekend. We’re supposed to pick them up from the airport on Sat. and spend the day with them (lunch, afternoon, dinner, etc.) and then they’re flying back on Sunday. Great, sounds like fun!

Then,

I get this nagging feeling that June 9th sounds really familiar to me. And I finally remember that we agreed to go to some friends’ for dinner that night. They have a 3 yr old and a 7 mo old. We’re supposed to be there at 4pm and will probably get out by 8pm as that’s the 3 yr old’s bedtime.

Ok, no problem. We’ll have lunch with the friends, drop them off wherever they want and then go to our other friends for dinner, and maybe the Greek can meet them for drinks afterwards.

Yesterday,

We get an evite reminder. My cousin’s daughter’s 3rd b-day party is on Sat at 11:30am at Chuck E. Cheese’s. UGH! What are we going to do?????

Why does this always happen to us?

You dirty girl….

May 30, 2007 at 9:10 pm (the Princess & the Wee Man)

So we went camping for the first time as a family this past memorial day weekend. DH, me, the princess and the wee man. We went with a whole group of people, some of whom are close friends and some not so close. Well, we shared a campsite with another family who has a daughter princess’s age (we’ll call her blondie) and a newborn (6 wks old — she was SO precious). Anyway, princess and blondie got along like (what’s that phrase something like balls afire???) whatever, they got along great. (my goodness, I definitely need to take a creative writing course — I’m tempted to start every sentence with “anyway”).. So back to the topic..

Princess and Blondie were playing with their shovels and buckets at our campsite — basically with dirt. Just filling up their buckets and emptying them out, when all of a sudden one of them decided it would be fun to dump the dirt on this big rock. So for a few hours (it seemed like a few hours anyway — UGH there is that word again!), they were dumping buckets of dirt on this rock. Then one of them decided it would be a good idea to slide down the rock since it was so slippery now due to the dirt that they had so diligently dumped on it.

So the next several hours were spent sliding down the dirt-covered rock. After a while, you couldn’t tell where their clothes ended and where their hands, feet, and faces began. Of course, all the adults were watching and laughing hysterically. My husband, of course, says, “at least they’re not making dirt angels!” I think he forgot that 3 yr old children can hear and understand adult speech… Because the girls stopped sliding for a moment, looked at each other, and flopped themselves down to do dirt angels… FACE FIRST!!

It took 3 days to get all the dirt out of Princess’s nostrils.

If I can figure it out, I’ll try to post some pics….
